BASE•ACID

1/10

Base, ácido. Sóbrio, escandaloso. Tranquiliza, agita...

Base, acid. Sober, scandalous. Reassures, rocks ... Not always the opposites in fashion and photography are genres. Chanel was simple and functional. Schiaparelli was surreal. The 80s were more colorful than the 90s. In music, the Beatles were mods in the beginning. The Sex Pistols, punks ... But be careful, sober doesn't means having less personality than scandalous. Each one has its way, as you'll see in this editorial. In the end what matters is the message.

Base or acid, which one are you?

FASHION STORY, PANAMÁ

Imagine a cena.

ENGLISH VERSION

Imagine the scene. You, with khaki pants or shorts, white buttoned down shirt or a striped t shirt. Havaianas, please. On a beach, drinking coconut water under the bright sun and...wearing a panama hat. You are chic, simple, cool and sexy. Man or woman. Believe me. You don't need to have a lot of money to live a lifestyle with style.

Panama hat is a light-colored hat, (off white or light beige) of Ecuadorian origin. Although its name is due to the fact that in the beginning of the 20th century, americans and french who would travel to Panama surrounding areas, would see local workers wearing the hat and then when the traveleres went back to their homelands, they talked about the hat as if it was from Panama, but the hat can only be made in Ecuador, because it is made from plaited leaves of the Carludovica palmata plant. A plant that is only cultivated in that country. And because these hats are handmade, some of them can take up to 6 months to be woven.

So it was during last century that it became an icon of style, and so many times being worn by big names in history like for instance, ex american president, Theodore Roosevelt and also by Santos Dumont, Tom Jobim, Madonna, Lula. And of course worn by me \o/... Too bad that only a few days wearing this panama hat I bought in Canoa Quebrada (above), the straw started breaking off. Grrrr! Hopefully soon I am buying my third one, yes, THIRD one, but this one will last.
